What Are the Benefits of Using Heart Rate Monitors?

Are you an active person? And no, I do not mean that you wear a casual watch or even perhaps a sports watch to look cool, but are you generally active in the sense that you are a thrill-seeker or a gym buff or something?

An active person means that they have healthier hearts. Our hearts are just one of the most important parts of our body and its main function is to pump blood to the different areas of our system. The blood that it pumps contains oxygen and nutrients and people who are active will generally need more of it than those who are sedentary.

That being said, when you first get into bouts of exercise, your heart will start pumping more and more blood as it is needed. Since the heart is technically a muscle, every time it gets used (or trained, as some would put it), it gets stronger and it doesn’t have to work as hard as it did before to pump the same amount of blood. If that happens, it is important that you start intensifying your workouts to ensure that your heart gets challenged in a good way, thereby improving its efficiency even more.

When measuring heart rate, you will have to measure its beats per minute. Of course, it is virtually impossible for you to keep track of how many beats your heart does in a minute and that is the reason why you have to use heart rate monitors.

Back in the day, heart rate monitors are bulky machines and doctors (or researchers) would have to strap a lot of things on your body just to measure your pulse. However, that is no longer the case in this day and age simply because there are now gadgets that can do just that; more specifically, a smartwatch.

What is a Smartwatch?

Basically, a smartwatch is worn just like any other watch out there. It is a digital watch that can do a lot of things, especially for active people.

You see, a typical smartwatch nowadays contains a lot of different sensors and that is why heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, and tracking how many steps you’ve made are just some of its core functionalities.

A smartwatch can easily be worn and it will instantly track your beats per minute. Keep in mind that not all smartwatches are the same in the sense that some are equipped with better sensors and some have better software, among many other differences.

How Do Heart Rate Monitors Work?

A heart rate monitor works the same way as an ECG but the main difference is that the gadget is attached on your wrist and not on your chest (as is the case when wearing a smartwatch).

Benefits of Using HRMs

There are a lot of benefits to using HRMs. First is that you will know exactly how efficient your heart is when it comes to pumping blood. Active people can intensify their workouts based on their hearts’ beats per minute.

HRMs can also allow you to know your resting heart rate and it is a measure of how efficient your heart is at providing some much-needed blood to the different areas of the body based on how slow your heart rate is. The slower the beats, the more efficient the said organ is.
